Brian Herbert, Cavaliers and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse’s Director of Safety and Security has been recognized by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) as a 2015 Professional of the Year.  The award was presented at the National Sports Safety and Security Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida on Monday, July 6, 2015.

Recognizing representatives from each professional sports league, Herbert (NBA) was one of eight to receive the award for outstanding contributions and leadership in sports security. “These contributions involve enhancing safety and security at their venue beyond what is normally required, and setting an example for others to follow,” said NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani.

Herbert joined the Cavaliers organization in 2011 with over 10 years of experience in the law enforcement and security field.  Since then, he has restructured Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse’s security team and is credited for establishing a strong communication network and working relationships with the Cleveland Police Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, as well as other downtown Cleveland venues, to create a high level of synergy to ensure the safety and security for fans attending Cavaliers games and other arena events.

In addition, Herbert has been on the forefront of setting up the processes for monitoring social media from a security perspective. He has been successful in setting the standard in the NBA on how to assess and respond to social conversation that could present potential security issues during games and events.
