Fundraiser Supports Cancer Research at Cleveland Clinic

Tickets are on sale today for the 16th Annual “An Evening with Scott Hamilton and Friends” ice show and gala scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Every year, Scott Hamilton reaches out to his closest friends in the music and skating worlds to host a truly must-see event, which raises funds for cancer research, education and survivorship programs at Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute. 

This year’s event promises to be spectacular with musical guest Styx – the legendary rock band known for their outstanding live performances. The multimillion-selling rock band was formed in 1972 and has been performing hits for more than four decades covering a wide range of music. Since 1996, the band has also performed in special appearances with Cleveland’s own Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO), a unique musical education program that provides students across Northeast Ohio with hands-on learning experiences. At this year’s event, Styx and CYO will once again join forces to offer a hybrid orchestral rock blend. 

Performing with Styx and CYO at the event will be more than a dozen Olympic, Canadian, U.S. and World skating champions, including Ilia Kulia, Jeffrey Buttle, Kimmie Meissner, Jeremy Abbott, Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, Ryan Bradley, Kim Navarro and Brent Bommentre, Shawn Sawyer and Isabelle Tobias and Ilya Tkachenko. 

Funds raised from “An Evening With Scott Hamilton & Friends” – founded in 1999 after Hamilton’s experience with testicular cancer and then a benign brain tumor – support three major programs at Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute: the 4th Angel Mentoring Program, designed to match newly diagnosed patients with trained volunteers who are also cancer survivors, as well as matching new caregivers with a mentor; Chemocare.com, a unique website designed to help patients better understand the chemotherapy experience; and research funding. Since its inception, more than $16 million has been raised to fund 49 innovative cancer research projects. 

This year’s “An Evening with Scott Hamilton and Friends,” presented by Medical Mutual of Ohio, will kick off with an ice show at 5 p.m. at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. A black-tie gala, hosted by philanthropist Maria Miller, follows at 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. Tickets for the ice show are on sale today and start at $29.50.
